+ Buenas, Jana. Antes de nada tengo que decirte que me encanta que una editorial española haya apostado por ti. Leí El chico equivocado en inglés y me pareció estupendo. En español lo he vuelto a releer y la sensación ha sido la misma. Mi enhorabuena por tus libros y logros literarios conseguidos (como que te publiquen fuera de tu país). Aquí tienes una lectora asidua que seguirá tu rastro literario. Y ahora a lo que vamos, a la entrevista, háblanos un poco sobre ti. ¿Cómo te surgió la vena de escritora? ¿Qué te inspiró? // Hi, Jana. Before we start I just have to tell you that I love that a Spanish publishing House decided to support your work. I read El chico equivocado in English and I thought it was incredible. I’ve reread it in Spanish and I’ve felt the same. Congrats for your books and achievements (being translated and published in another country is a big deal). Here you’ll find a loyal reader that will follow your work. And now let’s begin the interview. Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you start writing and why?
- Empecé a escribir por puro capricho a finales de 2014. Era la asistente personal virtual de otra escritora por esa época, y me resultaba muy divertido estar en medio de la acción. Todo el tiempo lo pasábamos hablando sobre ideas para futuros libros, y fue justo en uno de esos momentos cuando me vino a la cabeza esa idea del doctor pervertido, y ésta escritora para la que trabajaba me dijo que debería desarrollarla; escribirla. ¡Así que lo hice! Nunca había escrito nada antes pero la historia de Wrong me había convencido, por lo que me decidí escribirla. // I started writing on a whim in late 2014. I’d been assisting another author at the time, a virtual PA job and it was so much fun being in the middle of the action. We would talk about book ideas all the time and when I had this idea for a kinky doctor she told me I should write it. So I did! I’ve never been a writer prior, but I was determined that I had a story with Wrong and I was going to write it.
+ ¿Cómo te sientes sabiendo que tus libros están siendo publicados en otro países? // How do you feel about your books being published in different countries?
- Wow. Me emociona. Ya me siento aturdida cuando la gente lee mi libro en inglés así que imagínate ahora, menos de un años después, traducido a otros idiomas. ¡Qué locura! Me siento muy afortunada. // Wow. It’s thrilling. I’m stunned that anyone read my book in English and now less than a year later it’s been translated into different languages? Crazy! I’m so honored.
+ ¿Tienes algún ritual de escritura? // Do you have any writing rituals?
- No realmente. Para cada libro el proceso es diferente. De hecho todavía estoy acostumbrándome a seguir un horario de escritura. A veces escribo a mano. El chico equivocado lo escribí mayoritariamente a mano, pasándolo después una vez a la semana al ordenador. Lo sigo haciendo así. Según en qué momentos me mantengo alejada del ordenador y escribo a mano en un cuaderno, que hace el proceso más rápido para mí. Intento siempre tener un cuaderno conmigo, porque una línea o idea pueden aparecer en mi cabeza inesperadamente y si no lo escribo al momento, lo olvido. // Not really. It’s different every book. I’m still working on getting on a schedule. Sometimes I write by hand. I wrote most of Wrong by hand and then typed it up once a week or so. I still do some of my writing this way. At times stepping back from the computer and writing it by hand in a notebook makes the process go faster for me. I try to always have a notebook with me, because a line or idea will pop into my head and if I don’t jot it down immediately, I’ll forget.
+ ¿Cómo se te ocurrió la idea para escribir y desarrollar Wrong? ¿En qué te inspiraste? // How did you come up with the idea of Wrong? What’s the inspiration behind it?
- Me encantan los libros con machos alfas. ¡Los adoro! Protagonistas masculinos empresarios y protas femeninas vírgenes son mis favoritos. Libros así, podría leerlos durante todo el día, cada día. Por eso pensé que un doctor rico sería mi oportunidad de interferir en el mundo de los protagonistas empresarios. Eso también me facilitó poder desarrollar el encuentro de Sophie y Luke de una manera muy embarazosa. // I love alpha male books. Love them! CEO’s and virgins are my favorites. I could read them all day, every day. So I thought a rich doctor would be my twist on the CEO. It also allowed for me to set up Sophie & Luke officially meeting in a very awkward way.
+ ¿Te sientes identificada en algún aspecto con Sophie? // Do you identify yourself with Sophie in any way?
- Interesante pregunta. He estado pensando sobre ello últimamente, mientras trabajo en mi cuarta historia. Pienso que cada chica que escribo tiene un pedacito de mí, pero ninguna de ellas soy yo. Así que, ¿me identifico a mí misma con ellas? No, pero las comprendo, si eso tiene algún sentido. // Interesting question. I’ve been thinking about this lately as I’m currently working on my 4th story. I think that each girl I write has tiny slivers of me, but none of them are me. So do I identify myself with them, no. But I understand them if that makes any sense.+ ¿Qué nos dirías a los lectores españoles sobre Wrong? Háblanos un poco sobre la historia y lo que intentaste transmitir con ella. // What would you tell your Spanish readers about Wrong? Please, tell us a bit more about the story and what you tried to let us know through it.
- El chico equivocado es un romance sexy y subidito de tono. Mi intención solamente era que los lectores se divirtieran leyéndolo. // Wrong is a dirty, sexy romance. I just wanted readers to have fun reading it.
